DAY 20 - Enjoying God
DAY 20
Read: Lamentations 3:19-26
Randy Alcorn in his book on Happiness talks about a good friend of his who genuinely believed that every get-together retreat or vacation was the best he had experienced. His capacity to enjoy the moment, savor the present became a treasured memory. After every time he had been with them, the friend would send a text saying that was the best meal, the most fun time he had had. The ability to enjoy, savor every moment is important.
In the book of Lamentations, the prophet is walking through a Jerusalem in ruins. In 587 BC the Babylonians came and destroyed the temple, the city, burned down the gates and walls. The prophet is walking through the ravaged city. Seeing the ruins, poverty and strife everywhere, he laments. www.newhopetv.org
We are allowed to express our despair, our confusion as we have a loving Father who understands our pain and frustration. And yet, in the midst of all the brokenness and uncertainty, the prophet says he has hope. This is the best moment because he chooses to believe in the loving kindness of God. He sees everything in a new way just as God’s mercies are new every morning. A changed perspective to life because of Jesus.
I can celebrate in spite of the brokenness on the outside. Joy inexpressible and full of glory as it says in 1 Peter 1: 8. This is true living.
:: Prayer ::
Forgive us Lord and bring us to repentance. May we recognize our sin and come closer to you. Fill us Lord with Your love and may we enjoy every moment as we live for You. In Jesus name, Amen.
