DAY 2 - Focus on God

 Day 2

 Read: Mathew 11: 28-30

The Jewish people have a certain reading for each day. It is significant that what happens on that day often has a connect to the respective scripture portion read from the Torah. An example of this connect is seen in Luke 4:17-20, when Jesus enters the synagogue and reads from Isaiah 61:1, “The spirit of God is upon me to preach good news, to free the captives and heal the broken hearted”. Jesus goes on to say “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

Another fascinating example is the reading on the funeral of Billy Graham, a renowned man of God and an incredible evangelist who won many souls to Christ. He died on 15th February 2018 and at his funeral, his daughter, Anne Graham Lotz read the scripture portion allotted for that day according to the Jewish calendar. The reading was the death of Moses and challenge for Joshua to take on leadership to bring the Israelites into the Promised Land.

The day the lockdown was announced in America the corresponding reading from the Torah for that day was Moses giving instructions to build the Tabernacle in the wilderness. He reminds the Israelites of God’s command to observe the Sabbath, a day of complete rest, to stay at home and celebrate God’s goodness.

As we go through the lockdown, may we remember that God is calling us to enjoy Him, celebrate His goodness and to rest in Him. Spend time together as a family recollecting God’s faithfulness in your lives. Do not go into mourning rather celebrate God. Pray together, meditate on His word and seek God during this time.

Let us be prepared for His return, for the crown He will give us. May we purify ourselves and prepare for that kingdom. The King of kings is coming in glory. Repent and make God your priority. As C.S. Lewis says, “We can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures…but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

God is asking, ‘Will you give me the first place in your life?’ Use this time to turn to Him and allow Him to take control of your life.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, forgive us for drawing away from You. Help us to repent and recognize the signs of these times. May we live a life of holiness that is pleasing to You. So come Lord Jesus, Maranatha. Amen.
